Purdue is among the world’s best academic institutions, according to yet another highly regarded ranking. The 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, released Wednesday (Sept. 27), ranked Purdue the No. 33 university in the U.S. and No. 86 worldwide, up from No. 40 and No. 127 in the last round and reflecting Purdue’s rising global reputation.
Purdue doctoral student Hyunjin Kim discovered his career calling after taking an immunology course as an undergraduate at Hanyang University in South Korea. The only problem: He discovered his passion for human health one semester before he was to graduate with an international studies degree. Now at Purdue as a PhD candidate in toxicology, Kim is cultivating giant leaps in stem cell research in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
Purdue inducted 38 instructors into its Book of Great Teachers, which honors outstanding teaching faculty who have demonstrated sustained excellence in the classroom. The induction ceremony, conducted as part of the annual Celebration of Teaching Excellence, is held every five years and took place Tuesday (Sept. 26) in Purdue Memorial Union's North Ballroom. Automatically included in the Book of Great Teachers are professors with 10 years of service to the university who previously have been honored with the Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. Other inductees have at least 15 years of service to the university and were nominated by students, alumni and colleagues.
A new episode of “This Is Purdue” features Dave and Donna Beering, Purdue alumni and son and daughter-in-law of Dr. Steven C. Beering, former Purdue president. The episode features the Beering family on a more personal level, including stories about Dr. Beering’s time as a physician in the Air Force and how Dave, then a Purdue student, found out his dad was named the next university president.
Parking details have been shared in advance of Saturday’s home football game. The university community should plan ahead for parking on campus for work or academic purposes this weekend.
