Purdue President Mung Chiang announced on Monday (Oct. 9) the launch of the Purdue Broadband Team, a collaborative effort among Purdue, the Indiana Broadband Office, and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. Through its presence in every county in the state, the university is taking its land grant role to help Indiana families and businesses have access to affordable broadband internet service.
Andrew Whelton, professor of civil engineering and environmental and ecological engineering, has built a network of community leaders and experts who have dealt with the environmental aftermath of wildfires. That same network of leaders, connected by circumstances that left them with a highly specialized knowledge base, recently wanted to pay it forward as Maui dealt with the aftermath of the deadliest U.S. wildfire in a century.
