The United Way of Greater Lafayette recently celebrated a significant milestone: 100 years of service to our local community. The organization has raised over $180 million to support the people of our region, working with 27 local Tippecanoe County agencies to create a more vibrant and equitable community. Purdue University proudly stands as one of the largest contributors to the local United Way, and the Purdue community can still
donate to the 2023 campaign through Nov. 10.
Registration is available for faculty to attend the Westwood Lecture Series on Nov. 16. Edward Delp, the Charles William Harrison Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will discuss “Deepfakes and Other Types of Generated and Manipulated Media: It Is Real and Coming for Our Society!” from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Westwood, the Purdue president’s residence.
Nearly 130 Purdue faculty, staff and university leaders met in a Life and Health Sciences Summit on Oct. 19 to explore and define opportunities to deepen Purdue’s leadership in these fields. Ahead of the summit, faculty teams from seven colleges and 22 departments submitted 48 proposals for research topics where Purdue has unique nationally leading strengths. Funding from a pool of up to $2 million was set aside to catalyze such faculty pursuits as part of a seed investment.
Thomas Beechem, associate professor of mechanical engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Beechem researches thermal physics, semiconductors, spectroscopy, nanophotonics, and 2D materials. The ASME Committee of Past Presidents confers the Fellow grade of membership on worthy candidates to recognize their outstanding engineering achievements.
The Purdue community is invited to help celebrate the renaming and space dedication of Purdue’s Veterans Success Center, which will now be known as the Dorothy Stratton Veteran and Military Success Center (VMSC). The new name pays homage to Dorothy Stratton’s legacy and leadership to Purdue and the nation. The ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 10, following a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Both events will take place in the Great Hall of the Purdue Memorial Union and are free and open to the public.
Purdue will celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 10 with a ceremony and salute in the Great Hall of Purdue Memorial Union. The ceremony will include the presentation of the colors by Purdue University Tri-service Color Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance, the national anthem and patriotic songs by the Purduettes. The salute will begin at 2 p.m.
R. Ethan Braden, executive vice president and chief marketing and communications officer for Purdue University and Purdue Global, will be Texas A&M University’s new vice president and chief marketing and communications officer. Braden has had a tremendous impact on marketing and communication for both Purdue and Purdue Global and in building Purdue's brand across the globe.
