A Purdue experiment that arrived Aug. 4 to the International Space Station aims to collect data scientists need to answer decades-old questions about how boiling and condensation work in reduced gravity. Purdue professor Issam Mudawar started this project in response to a 2011 survey by the National Academies that guides NASA, the White House and Congress on areas of research to prioritize for funding.
Purdue’s Office of Research has named nine faculty as research fellows in Indiana’s AnalytiXIN, an academic-industry initiative based in Indianapolis. AnalytiXIN was established to develop a digital community, including a collaboration location in Indianapolis, to strengthen engagement among academic researchers with their industry counterparts.
After 50 years, multi-Grammy Award winner Kronos Quartet shows no signs of slowing down. The group performs original chamber music compositions, led by violinist and founder David Harrington. Over the years, Kronos has performed more than 1,000 pieces. In its return to Purdue Thursday (Nov. 9) at Loeb Playhouse, the San Francisco ensemble continues to challenge and reimagine what a string quartet can be.
