Purdue University is joining the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as presenting sponsor for the Total Solar Eclipse viewing event April 8, 2024, in front of a worldwide audience. Chosen as one of only a few NASA broadcast sites that day, IMS will draw all eyes to Indianapolis, located in the heart of the path of totality. The exciting day of programming and festivities will feature Boilermaker experts, alumni, students and more during the in-person event.
Purdue held its second Semiconductor Week Oct. 17-26 to showcase its continued leadership and commitment to strengthen expertise in microelectronics and semiconductors in the United States. The event included the first Microelectronics Commons meeting and the launch of the $33 million Silicon Crossroads Hub.
Researchers in Purdue University’s College of Engineering have invented noninvasive, wearable medical devices to make the monitoring and treatment of certain physiological and psychological conditions timelier and more precise. Wenzhuo Wu, the Ravi and Eleanor Talwar Rising Star Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering, said noninvasive, repeated monitoring of uric acid levels in human sweat could enable the unprecedented diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of several conditions including anxiety and hypertension.
Julia Laskin, the William F. and Patty J. Miller Professor of Analytical Chemistry, has been recognized with a Special Creativity Extension by the National Science Foundation. The project titled “Emerging Computational Methods in Mass Spectrometry Imaging” has been awarded two years of additional funding, as well as additional equipment funds.
Commercial space pioneer and Purdue alumna Beth Moses joined Purdue President Mung Chiang on Nov. 6 as part of the Presidential Lecture Series. The public event, titled “From Purdue Alumna to Commercial Astronaut Pioneer,” was held in Stewart Center’s Fowler Hall. A video of the event is now available.
The music never stops in “Johnny Cash — The Official Concert Experience,” coming to Purdue’s Loeb Playhouse Friday (Nov. 10). The multimedia celebration uses state-of-the-art technology to lift Cash’s iconic baritone from archival concert footage and recordings, enabling the “Man in Black” to perform his biggest hits with a live band again.
A new episode of “This Is Purdue” features Monica Keyes, wife of the late Purdue icon and former Boilermaker football player and coach Leroy Keyes. The couple met in a church bowling league in Philadelphia when Leroy was an NFL player for the Eagles. Tune in to hear how Monica was introduced to the Purdue community and how she later became a Boilermaker herself.
The College of Engineering has announced a guaranteed paid internship to Purdue University in Indianapolis engineering students in good academic standing. As part of an undergraduate degree program, the work-integrated learning experience may come in the form of a co-op or an industry or undergraduate research internship.
