The eighth annual Distinguished and Named Professorship Ceremony on Monday (Nov. 13) celebrated midcareer, distinguished, and named professors and administrators at Purdue for their accomplishments and successes.

Purdue engineering professor Andrew Whelton is a water quality expert who helps guide these communities back toward normalcy. His efforts to aid citizens in Colorado in the wake of the Marshall Fire have been featured in BBC StoryWorks’s series “The Climate and Us.”
The American Mathematical Society has named Alex Pothen, professor of computer science, as one of its 40 Fellows of the AMS for 2024. Pothen’s research interests include combinatorial scientific computing, graph algorithms and high-performance computing.
Young jazz piano phenom Emmet Cohen returns to Purdue with chops that compelled The New York Times to hail him as “an obvious heir apparent to the neo-traditional jazz mantle.” Backed by a rhythm section, Cohen will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 18) at Loeb Playhouse.
During International Education Week (Nov. 13-17), Purdue’s Office of Global Partnerships and Global Academic Committee are recognizing the four winners of Purdue’s 2023 Outstanding Leadership in Globalization Award. This year’s faculty winners are professors Jill Newton (mathematics education) and Yuehwern Yih (industrial engineering). The two staff winners are Gary Burniske (International Programs in Agriculture) and Rhonda Von Werder (College of Engineering).
A new episode of “This Is Purdue” features Monica Keyes, wife of the late Purdue icon and former Boilermaker football player and coach Leroy Keyes.
