When Maliheh “Mali” Shaltouki Rizi describes her hometown, the ancient Iranian city of Esfahan, she notes the importance of agriculture surrounding the metropolitan area. In fact, she says it was her grandfather’s rice farm that first drew her to agronomy. She arrived at Purdue in 2022 to begin research that focuses on improving wheat root traits to increase the crop’s resilience in different environmental conditions.
When Lakshay Vohra makes a presentation to clients, he does so with confidence. The 2022 graduate of the Master of Science in Business Analytics and Information Management program in the Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business learned a service mindset through his industry practicum course. Director Matthew Lanham is proud of the highly ranked program, crediting its success to a mix of classroom learning and experiential opportunities.

Purdue’s second annual Proud to Be F1RST! reception was one of several events during First-Gen College Student Celebration Week. In alignment with the national celebration, Purdue’s events lauded the strengths embodied by the first-generation college student community.
