Purdue continues to place greater emphasis on the mental health and well-being of its students, staff and faculty, creating and expanding services and programs while committing significant financial resources to foster a campuswide culture of safety and wellness. Sparked by recommendations from the Action Council on Student Housing and Well-Being, Purdue is renewing commitments while advancing the university’s new “one-team” approach in fostering deeper and stronger collaborations between key campus units.
Purdue University researchers across all campuses and academic disciplines have recently received 27 patents on their intellectual property from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Most of these innovations are available to license and bring to market.
Purdue and its benefits department were recently recognized as this year's winner in the Healthiest Employers of Indiana awards program, which honors people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population. Purdue took first place for organizations with 5,000 or more employees.
The holiday season at Purdue University kicked off Monday (Nov. 27) with the arrival of a Christmas tree at the Purdue Memorial Union's Great Hall. The annual ceremony for the lighting of the tree will follow on Wednesday (Nov. 29) with the tree lighting beginning at 5:30 p.m. President Mung Chiang will join the festivities with his first lighting of the tree at 6 p.m. The lighting will be followed by additional performances, crafts for children, light refreshments, photo opportunities and more.
For nearly a century, the Purdue Christmas Show has captivated audiences with its dazzling performances and heartwarming messages of love, hope and unity. Tickets are available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 1-3) shows at Elliott Hall of Music.
The College of Education’s James F. Ackerman Center for Democratic Citizenship has developed 6th Grade Civics Course Design and Resources to help Indiana teachers meet the state’s required civics standards for middle school mandated by the Indiana Department of Education in 2022. The center piloted the curriculum with Sunnyside Intermediate School in Lafayette last year and is now offering the resources with no fee for the 2023-24 school year.
Responses are still needed for Purdue’s Action Council on Student Housing and Well-Being’s survey on transportation and pedestrian safety. The survey will remain open through 11:59 p.m. Friday (Dec. 1).
