Years of persistence and thousands of small steps together culminated this weekend for nearly 2,000 undergraduate students and 1,500 graduate students as part of Purdue’s Winter 2023 Commencement ceremonies. Gen. David Thompson, a Purdue alum who serves as vice chief of space operations for the U.S. Space Force, delivered the commencement address at the three ceremonies Sunday (Dec. 17).
When predicting floods and droughts, researchers examine a river’s history. Because of climate change and direct human intervention, however, history is becoming an inaccurate predictor. Civil engineering PhD student Jibin Joseph is part of a research team analyzing long-term river discharge data for the contiguous U.S. to learn how past, present and future climate and land-use changes are impacting river flows.
Lindsay Elias, who helps manage Purdue’s Office of Future Engineers, was recently named the winner of the university’s 2023 Eudoxia Girard Martin Memorial Staff Recognition Award, an honor that recognizes a full-time administrative assistant who demonstrates qualities of heart, mind and spirit that exhibit a love for and helpfulness to students, faculty and staff.
