Fall-semester classes start Monday, Aug. 19, and university officials are preparing for the influx of more than 30,000 students at the West Lafayette campus.
Classes at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and Purdue North Central at Westville begin Aug. 26. Classes at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis begin Aug. 21. Classes at Purdue Calumet at Hammond start Aug. 22.
At the West Lafayette campus, numerous activities are scheduled to help students become acquainted with Purdue.
One of the first events on the West Lafayette campus will be a welcoming parade from the Windsor Residence Halls to Elliott Hall of Music on Saturday, Aug. 17, said John A. Sautter, vice president for housing and food services. First-year students will join Purdue's "All-American" Marching Band, its auxiliary units and Purdue President Steven C. Beering in the 6:15 p.m. parade.
After the parade, students and their parents will attend the President's Gala to Welcome New Students at 7 p.m. in Elliott Hall of Music. Beering will address the new students, as will Chris Scott, Purdue Student Government president.
Students will start moving into Purdue residence halls Sunday, Aug. 11, when first-year students participate in Boiler Gold Rush, a four-day orientation program. Other students will be able to move into university residence halls Aug. 12, but will have to pay a daily $28.25 room and board fee or a $12.50 room only rate for each day before Friday, Aug. 16, when regular housing contracts start.
On Aug. 16, staff and veteran students in each hall will be available to direct new students and parents to the students' rooms and to serve refreshments. As for parking, most buildings will have 20-minute unloading zones. After families have unloaded belongings, they will he able to park in the garage northeast of the Purdue West Shopping Plaza or on the parking lot south of Earhart Hall.
All beginning and transfer students at the West Lafayette campus who have not talked with an adviser and have not selected classes must attend delayed enrollment at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. Students should report to the academic counseling office of the school where they are enrolled.
Most undergraduate schools will conduct orientation programs at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.

The School of Agriculture will have an ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, on the Lilly Hall lawn. Prepharmacy students can participate in a program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the east side of Heine Pharmacy Building. The Department of Freshman Engineering will sponsor a picnic at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Vawter Field, east of the Recreational Gymnasium.
