Great Hall Christmas tree raising set for Dec. 2

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Holiday activities at Purdue University will begin about noon Dec. 2 with the raising of the Christmas tree in the Great Hall of the Purdue Memorial Union.

The tree-raising is the first of a series of holiday-related events sponsored by the Purdue Memorial Union and the Purdue Student Union Board, said Debbie Anderson, assistant director for program services at the union and PSUB adviser.

George and Alice Koehler, 2853 W. County Road 400 North, West Lafayette, are donating a 30-foot Concolor Fir. The tree for the Great Hall has been donated by a community member every year since 1975. The tree is traditionally the largest indoor, live tree in Indiana.

Purdue staff members will use a lift to decorate the top half of the tree. Members of the Purdue Student Union Board will decorate the bottom half.

The Union will be the site for other holiday activities during the week following the tree raising:
