NSF awards fund seven young faculty members

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Seven Purdue University scientists and engineers are among 346 nationwide who are working on projects funded last year by a federal program designed to encourage them early in their careers as educators and researchers.

The 1996 Faculty Early Career Development Program grants, awarded by the National Science Foundation to junior-level university faculty, are designed to emphasize the importance of integrating research and educational activities in academic careers. The grants are awarded over three to five years and range from $30,000 to $300,000. The 1996 Purdue awardees are:
