Campus activities

-- The Purdue Student Union Board will sponsor a Tribute to Veterans Day at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Great Hall of the Purdue Memorial Union. Guest speakers will be Lt. Julie Haskell, a Vietnam veteran and Army nurse, and James Maris, a World War II pilot and former Purdue professor. The ceremony also will feature an ROTC color guard and 21-gun salute. Alumni honors

-- The School of Chemical Engineering presented its 1998 Outstanding Chemical Engineering Award to Guy J. Camarata on Oct. 29. Camarata is executive vice president and director of Caltex Petroleum Corp., Dallas, a company that produces and markets petroleum products worldwide. He earned his bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1960.

-- The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering honored six of its most distinguished alumni Oct. 29 with its 1998 Outstanding Electrical Engineer Award. The recipients are:

Robert J. Hesselberth, Penfield, N.Y., founder and chief executive officer of Spectracom Corp., East Rochester, N.Y. He received his bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1957.

Matthew E. Massengill, Laguna Niguel, Calif., executive vice president and general manager of the Personal Storage Group, Western Digital Corp., Irvine, Calif. He received his bachelor's degree from Purdue in 1983.

Laila R. Razouk, vice president and general manager of the network products division, Advanced Micro Devices, Sunnyvale, Calif. She received her master's degree from Purdue in 1974 and her doctorate in 1977.

Thomas J. Sheehan Jr., president of Syndicate Sales Inc., Kokomo, and retired general director of operations, Delco Electronics. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue in 1964 and 1965, respectively.

David R. Vogelpohl, Atlantic Highlands, N.J., new product introduction and manufacturing vice president, Philips Consumer Communications, Piscataway, N.J. He received a master's degree from Purdue in 1973.

Wang Shui Chung Patrick (Patrick S.C. Wang), chairman and chief executive of Johnson Electric Holdings Ltd. and Johnson Electric Industrial Manufactory Ltd., Hong Kong. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue in 1972.
