Kenny Wayne Shepherd booked for Purdue concert

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University Student Concert Committee announced today (Friday, 7/28) that blues rocker Kenny Wayne Shepherd will kick off the school year with a concert on Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. in the intimate Loeb Playhouse, located in Stewart Center. An opening act has yet to be announced.

Having produced three consecutive number one blues albums, a string of number one mainstream rock singles, two 1998 Billboard Music Awards for Rock Track of the Year and Blues Album of the Year, and a 1999 Grammy nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, Shepherd has established himself as one of the most acclaimed guitarists of his generation. While still only 22 years old, the young guitarist and his band have released a new album, "Live On," which features a diverse assortment of styles and renowned guest musicians including Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon and Reese Wynans (members of Steve Ray Vaughan's band), blues organist Dr. John, guitarist Warren Haynes of Allman Brothers fame, and Les Claypool of Primus.

Tickets to the Aug. 30 concert go on sale at the Stewart Center and Elliott Hall box offices to Purdue students on Friday (8/4) and then to the general public on Aug. 7. The box office hours both days will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will not be a sign-up for student purchase times because the concert is being held in the smaller Loeb Playhouse. All purchases will be made on a first come-first served basis. All seats are $25 and there is a limit of six tickets per person. Charge by phone at (765) 494-3933 or 800-914-SHOW. Limited tickets also will be available through TicketMaster.
