August 30, 2001 Purdue awards prestigious science scholarship to Lothian studentWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University has named a graduate of Northfield High School a School of Science Distinguished Scholar. Jeffrey Meekins of Lothian, Md., will receive a four-year scholarship, worth approximately $16,000, provided he maintains a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale). The scholarship is funded by Ed and Antoinette Shapiro of Hanover, N.H. Ed Shapiro received his doctorate in chemistry from Purdue in 1942. He is a retired board member of Du Pont and the founder of the New England nuclear utility.
