February 18, 2004 Imani Winds to perform in Purdue's Fowler HallWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Imani Winds will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall at Purdue University. Presented by Purdue Convocations, the quintet, made up of members of African-American and Latin heritage, will present works highlighting their commitment to diversity. The program will feature works by African, Latin and American composers focusing on the players' mission of "bridging the European and African musical traditions, exploring repertoire from diverse cultural backgrounds and reflecting upon their rich experience as classical musicians of color." Created in 1996, the Imani Winds was the Concert Artists Guild's first-ever Educational Residency Ensemble. Their Purdue University residency will include performances at Mayflower Mill and Mintone elementary schools and Battleground Middle School.
