David Copperfield to 'appear' at Purdue March 25

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Magician David Copperfield will perform An Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (3/25) in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music.

"We call it an 'intimate' evening of grand illusion partly because it's interactive," Copperfield says. "In one of the pieces, for example, the audience discovers how to predict lottery numbers that will come up that night. They get to participate in illusions that blur the line between magic and reality."

The evening's highlights will include Copperfield floating through a steel wall, squeezing himself inside a "bite-sized piece that could fit into a Prada shoe box" and disappearing on stage along with 13 randomly selected audience members.

Copperfield, who previously performed at Purdue in 1985 and 1992, has earned an extensive list of honors. He was the first person to escape Alcatraz. He made the Statue of Liberty disappear before a live audience of New Yorkers and an estimated 50 million TV viewers. He has walked through the Great Wall of China, levitated across the Grand Canyon, made the Orient Express vanish and created human flight in his illusion "Flying."

In addition to his list of illusions, Copperfield has a passion for preserving the art of magic for future generations. His International Museum and Library of the Conjuring Arts is a permanent home for antiquarian props and books. The museum houses the world's premiere collection of historical documentation and artifacts pertaining to magic, illusion and the allied arts.
