MOMIX to perform 'Opus Cactus'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Moses Pendleton's dance company, MOMIX, will perform at Purdue University's Loeb Playhouse at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21.

Presented by Purdue Convocations, MOMIX will perform "Opus Cactus," which was inspired by the saguaro cactus, known as the "sunflower of the desert." Under the direction of artistic director and choreographer Pendleton, MOMIX uses props, lights, shadow and the human body to create surrealistic images of cacti, tumbleweeds and desert landscapes.

"Few theater artists today can achieve the level of visual splendor and theatrical magic that Mr. Pendleton can conjure from essentially the sparest of means," Robert Greskovic wrote in The Wall Street Journal.

The New York Times wrote, "The versatile dancers of MOMIX enlivened the desert with their expertise in classical ballet, modern dance and gymnastics."

Tickets are $20 for Purdue students and those under 19. Tickets for the general public are $28. Tickets are on sale now at campus box offices by calling (765) 494-3933 and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Group discounts are available for groups of 20 or more by calling (765) 494-9712.
