January 18, 2005 Organizations team up to present music by Hoosiers Porter, CarmichaelWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue Musical Organizations will join the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra to present an evening of Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael music at 8 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Long Center, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. PMO's all-female vocal ensemble the Purduettes will join the Purdue Varsity Glee Club to sing songs such as "I Get a Kick Out of You," "You're the Top," "(Delightful Delicious) Delovely," "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" and "Washboard Blues." "There is no better way to spend a cold winter evening than to join us for a tribute to these great Indiana composers," said PMO director Brian Breed. Porter was born in 1891 in Peru, Ind., and studied law at Yale. Carmichael was born in 1899 in Bloomington, Ind., and studied law at Indiana University. Both were composers of popular songs in the middle of the 20th century and wrote music for Hollywood and Broadway. The opening entertainment will be provided at 7 p.m. by The Overtones, a southern gospel quartet from Rossville, Ind. Singers are Glee Club member Paul Pence, Aaron Brovont, John Deboy and Augie Pence, with Anthony Wireman on the keyboard. Tickets are $15 to $29 for the public, $13 to $27 for seniors, $13 to 21 for students age 13 through college and $10 to $19 for children under 12.
