Purdue hires Robert Kubat as new registrar

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Robert A. Kubat will be Purdue University's new registrar when fall semester classes begin on Aug. 22.
Kubat, who is currently registrar at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, will succeed Debra Kay Sheets, who has been acting as interim registrar since 2003.
"After a national search, Bob clearly rose to the top of the candidate pool," said Douglas L. Christiansen, assistant vice president for enrollment management and dean of admissions. "He has more than 20 years in the registrar business and received a tremendous endorsement from the university community.
"He directed the implementation of an online registration project and Web grading system at his previous position and has extensive student-system computer experience that will be a tremendous asset as Purdue moves into the future."
As registrar, some of Kubat's responsibilities include overseeing the management of student records, academic policy, registration, course catalogs, commencement and transcripts. In addition, he will serve as Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act compliance officer, be an active member of the enrollment management team, and will work directly with the University Senate.
"Working at Purdue is a great opportunity," Kubat said. "I'm excited about meeting with students, faculty and staff, and jumping into the OnePurdue project, the ambitious initiative that will bring together enrollment management, student affairs, human resources and finance data and truly connect all of Purdue's campuses."
OnePurdue will replace the current administrative computer system with a new Web-based system that will allow faculty, staff and students to access a variety of applications from online registration to benefits information.
Kubat has a master's degree in student personnel services and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
