Harlan Cohen to speak about college life and leadership

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Harlan Cohen, an author, speaker and syndicated columnist, will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 15) in Purdue Memorial Union's West Faculty Lounge.

Cohen is one of the youngest syndicated columnists to address issues affecting people in their teens, 20s and 30s. His Web site describes him as "like Dear Abby, only he's a lot younger, a lot hairier and he's a man."

Cohen is the author of the books "The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College" and "Campus Life Exposed: Advice from the Inside." He was a contributor to "Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul III," is an occasional contributor to the Chicago Tribune, and has written a monthly column for the classroom edition of The Wall Street Journal.

His expert advice has been featured in Psychology Today, The New York Times, Seventeen magazine and Details magazine. He also is the founder of Rejection Awareness Week (RAW) and the president of the International Rejection/Risk-Taking Project.

Cohen's presentation is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, and he is the guest speaker for the Emerging Leaders Program and the Senior Capstone Leadership Experience. This event is free of charge and open to the public; no tickets are necessary.

Refreshments will be served from 6:30-7 p.m. before the presentation.
