Purdue's 2005 highlights captured on videoWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The 51st edition of the Purdue Newsreel, a video collection of university highlights from 2005, is now available.
The 18-minute program, produced by the Broadcast Services unit of the Office of University Relations, can be viewed online or is available from the Purdue Undergraduate Library. The video also can be purchased from the Purdue Alumni Association.
The video, "Marching to Preeminence," is sponsored by the Alumni Association and Office of the President. It is shown to Purdue alumni clubs around the world.
The 2005 newsreel is narrated by 1981 Purdue graduate Tim Newton, director of external relations and communication for the Krannert School of Management. The program was produced and directed by Ray Cubberley, director of broadcast services.
The program can be viewed on Purdue's Web site. A DVD or VHS tape of the newsreel can be purchased for $19.95, plus $3 for shipping and handling, from the Purdue Alumni Association, Dick and Sandy Dauch Alumni Center, Attn: Nicki Reas, 403 Wood St., West Lafayette, IN 47907-2007; telephone (765) 494-5175.
Highlights in the 2005 video include: an update on Purdue's $1.5 billion campaign; dedications for the Bindley Bioscience Center, Birck Nanotechnology Center, Chao Center for Industrial Pharmacy and Contract Manufacturing, and Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts; research in the College of Agriculture involving biofuels; research in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences; the memorial service for former Purdue chemistry professor and Nobel Laureate Herbert Brown; high national rankings for Purdue programs; footage from Purdue's statewide campuses; the Black Cultural Center; student fund-raising for victims of hurricanes and a tsunami; homecoming; grand prix; senior send-off from the Purdue Alumni Association; commencement; Governor's Award recipient; new university honors program; the Air Race Classic; and the Latino Cultural Center's Week of the People celebration.
Other events in the video include: men's basketball highlights, including the final season with Gene Keady as coach; the transition to Matt Painter as coach; women's basketball highlights; football highlights; dedication of a new Boilermaker statue and the new Spurgeon Golf Training Center; opening of the new Blake Wrestling Training Center; initiation of a new alumni program for students, called Purdue Alumni Student Experience; PAA's new Legacy Picnic for new students whose parents also attended Purdue; Purdue's expanded involvement with the Black Expo in Indianapolis; PAA events at an Indianapolis Indians game and President Martin C. Jischke's home at Westwood; the return of an alumni ROTC drill team and the alumni band; the alumni club director's conference; Special Boilermaker Awards; Young Alumni Awards; the inaugural Boilermaker Pride Award; the Citizenship Award; the Gala Weekend alumni march; singing by the Glee Club; the NCAA appearance by the women's volleyball team; and closing comments from Alumni Association executive director Todd Coleman.
