Purdue alumna Susan Butler to speak at Panhellenic program

Susan Bulkeley Butler
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A graduate of Purdue University's Krannert School of Management will be the featured speaker for a Panhellenic Association program next week.

Susan Bulkeley Butler will speak about leadership at the Panhellenic "Own Your Future" program at 7 p.m. Monday (April 3) at the Dick and Sandy Dauch Alumni Center.

Butler shaped her career at Accenture, the global management consulting and technology services organization. After joining the company in 1965 as its first professional female employee, she was named its first female partner in 1979. Before her retirement in February 2002, she was the managing partner for Accenture's office of the CEO, in which she served as chief of staff for Joe W. Forehand, the chairman and CEO.

She founded the Susan Bulkeley Butler Institute for the Development of Women Leaders as a means of offering leadership training for women, with the mission of helping them tap and develop their leadership potential. Butler also is the author of "Become the CEO of You, Inc.: A Pioneering Executive Shares Her Secrets for Career Success."

In her book, Butler offers a four-step model to enable women to take charge of their lives in the manner of corporate CEOs with goals, strategic plans, boards of directors and differentiation from the competition.

In 2004, Butler donated $3.65 million for an endowed chair at the Discovery Learning Center in Discovery Park. Butler also has endowed a professorship in operations management at the Krannert School and a scholarship for an outstanding female student. In 2004, the Krannert School presented Butler with its Business Leadership Award.

The event is part of "Own Your Future: A Woman's Guide to Success," a lecture series sponsored by the Panhellenic Association and Alpha Xi Delta. Other speakers in the series include Cindy Stellhorn, of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, vice president and partner at M-J Insurance Inc.; and Pris Gerde, national president of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the human resource manager for Eli Lilly and Co.
