Julie A. Everett

Julie A. Everett, 39, died on Monday, July 17, 2006, of natural causes in Kenya, where she was residing and serving as part of a medical program to provide care in that African country.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1967, in Dowagiac, Mich., to Bill and Ruth Everett, and they survive. Also surviving are her husband, Patrick Nyongesa, and 2-month-old daughter Serena Nyongesa.

Dr. Everett was an associate professor of pharmacy practice in Purdue University's School of Pharmacy, where she had worked since 1995, and also held an adjunct appointment at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She also was a clinical pharmacist in the pediatric intensive care/burn unit at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. She earned her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in 1992.

Dr. Everett was residing in Kenya as part of a program that allows students to complete the pharmacy clerkship portion of their education in an international setting. The program is conducted through Purdue's School of Pharmacy, the IU School of Medicine and the Moi University School of Medicine in Eldoret, Kenya.

A tribal ceremony for Dr. Everett will be conducted Wednesday (July 19) in her husband's home village in Kenya.
