Chicago rock band Wilco to perform at Purdue's Elliott Hall of Music

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Chicago rock band Wilco will appear at Purdue's Elliott Hall of Music at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4.

Purdue's Student Concert Committee is sponsoring the show.

It has been an action-packed decade for Wilco since front man Jeff Tweedy assembled them after the breakup of Uncle Tupelo, the band he formed with his high school friend Jay Farrar in Belleville, Ill., in the late 1980s.

In the past 10 years, Wilco has released eight albums. They've also changed record companies, been the subject of books and documentaries and received a few Grammy awards and gold records. But for all the tumult there has always been Wilco, a rock band Spin magazine has called "capable of nearly anything."

November 2005 brought the release of "Kicking Television — Live in Chicago," a CD recorded in the band's hometown at the Vic Theatre last year. Both Wilco as a band and Tweedy as a solo performer have spent much of 2005 and 2006 on the road, and later this year Nonesuch Records will release a live solo Jeff Tweedy DVD. Footage was shot on Tweedy's Northwest U.S. tour dates in February 2006. Wilco has also begun work on their next studio album, which will likely see release in early 2007.

Wilco is Jeff Tweedy, guitars and vocals; John Stirratt, bass and vocals; Glenn Kotche, drums and percussion; Mike Jorgensen, keyboards; Nels Cline, guitars; and Pat Sansone, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

All tickets are $28.50; the price includes a facilities fee.

Tickets go on sale to Purdue and Ivy Tech Lafayette students, and Purdue faculty and staff with a current ID at 10 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Elliott Hall of Music and Stewart Center box offices at (765) 494-3933. Tickets for the general public will go on sale at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at Ticketmaster at (765) 743-5151. Tickets will be available from both sources beginning Aug. 21.
