Poet speaks at November Literary Reading Series

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Award-winning poet David Young will speak on Nov. 2 as part of the Purdue University Literary Reading Series.

Young's talk, which is free and open to the public, is at 7:30 p.m. in the Hicks Undergraduate Library Bookstall. He also will give an editor's roundtable at 10 a.m. on Nov. 3 in the Bookstall. The Department of English and the Creative Writing Program are sponsoring these events.

Young is the author of numerous books of poetry, nonfiction, craft and literary criticism, including "Black Lab," "At the White Window," "Seasoning: A Poet's Year: With Seasonal Recipes" and "Six Modernist Moments in Poetry." He also has translated works from Italian, Chinese, German, Czech and Spanish, including "The Poetry of Petrarch" and "Out on the Autumn River: Selected Poems of Du Mu."

Young's honors include a Pushcart Prize, Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and the Ohio Major Artist Award. Young is the Longman Professor Emeritus of English and Creative Writing at Oberlin College in Ohio and an editor of the Field Poetry Series at Oberlin College Press.

The Department of English is housed in the College of Liberal Arts.
