William B. and Mary Jane Elmore

William B. Elmore

Both ventures capitalists, William B. and Mary Jane Elmore live in Palo Alto, Calif.

William Elmore helped found Foundation Capital, a Menlo Park, Calif., venture capital firm in 1995 and works as a partner for the firm. He focuses many of his investments in the software, communication and computer-aided engineering industries. He currently serves on the boards of several high-tech companies and has been involved with companies including Atheros Communications, Biz360, Mark Monitor, Onyx Software, Packet Design, Tealeaf Technology, Vernier Networks, Wherenet, UXComm and WindRiver Systems.

Mary Jane Elmore

Before Foundation Capital, he worked as a general partner at Inman & Bowman for eight years. Elmore also served as president of visual engineering and a in variety of marketing management roles for Hewlett Packard.

As director and past president of the Western Association for Venture Capitalists, and in his role as director of the National Venture Capital Association, William Elmore is actively involved in defining, serving and representing the interests of the venture capital and private equity industries.

William Elmore, who grew up in Dayton, Ohio, earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Purdue University in 1975 and 1976, respectively.

Mary Jane Elmore, a native of Terre Haute, Ind., has been active in the software and information technology industries since the late 1970s. Since joining Institutional Venture Partners in 1982, she has focused on investments in the software, communications and computer-aided engineering areas. Prior to joining IVP, she was a product marketing manager at Intel Corp.

Before joining Institutional Venture Partners, Mary Jane Elmore worked as a product manager at Intel's Development Systems Division. At Intel, she worked in marketing for software and engineering development tool products, working with many high-tech firms in the Silicon Valley. She was part of a small team that was integral in the development and marketing of Intel microprocessors in the early 1980s.

She earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Purdue in 1976.

Mary Jane Elmore has served on the boards of directors of many private and public information technology companies. She also is a member of the Purdue Mathematics Advisory Council and trustee of the Stanford Business School Trust.

Both William and Mary Jane Elmore also earned MBAs from Stanford University.

The Elmores' $2 million gift to Purdue continues their history of financial support for the university and other charitable interests. The gift will support the William and Mary Jane Elmore Advanced Validation Laboratory in the Birck Nanotechnology Center. The laboratory will be used to help transition the technology developed in the nanotechnology center to marketable products and processes.
