December 7, 2009 Workplace violence workshop to be offered twiceTwo sessions of the Workplace Violence Awareness Workshop will be offered in the next month. This training session covers a variety of factors under the theme "Awareness, Prevention, Survival." The workshop uses audience participation, computer-generated graphics, sound effects, and video. Content includes: * Observable behaviors of concern, defining threat, classifying the risk, our response vs. our responsibility. *Developing awareness for the potential of violence in the workplace. * Recognizing the early warning signs of a potentially violent person or situation. * Identifying behaviors of increased risk and why aren’t they reported. * Handling confrontational individuals. * Advanced shelter in place: survival. * Identifying nonverbal communication skills. The Workplace Violence Awareness Workshop is a cooperative training effort by Physical Facilities Training, the Purdue Police Department, and the Campus Emergency Preparedness and Planning Office. Dec. 21 is the first workshop date, and that will be a special session for Housing and Food Services and Physical Facilities Buildings Services. It is scheduled for 8 p.m.-midnight in Hillenbrand Residence Hall. To register for the Dec. 21 HFS and PF Building Services session, employees should contact their supervisor for approval, then e-mail their request to register to Heidi Johnston-Murillo, facilities manager at Hillenbrand, at hmurillo@purdue.edu. Jan. 7 is the date for a session open to all faculty, staff, and students. It is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon in Room 1142, Lawson Computer Science Building.
