Purdue's Camp Calcium concludes for year

Middle school-aged girls experienced campus life this summer while taking part in Purdue University's Camp Calcium, a research effort that studies how calcium and other nutrients affect the body. This year's camp, which concluded on Aug. 1, focused on measuring the effects of vitamin D on calcium absorption. Results from previous camps have been used in part to form the dairy recommendations for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's food pyramid. The girls participated in swimming and other sports, arts and crafts, classes taught by university staff, and field trips to nearby locations.
