"That kind of innovation and imagination to test hypotheses is the foundation of all good science. The show highlights the use of the scientific method and shows the practicality of science to everyday life. It is a well-known show with a core focus on the practice of science and presents it in an accessible and entertaining way." The college is creating a new scholarship in honor of the landmark anniversary, and proceeds from the "MythBusters" event will go to the scholarship fund, he said. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of what is now known as the College of Science. To commemorate the anniversary, the college will sponsor speakers and events throughout the year. Hyneman, who is from Columbus, Indiana, holds several patents and has won industry awards for his visual effects. Savage also has a background in the special-effects industry and teaches advanced model-making, most recently at the San Francisco Academy of Art. "MythBusters" is a weekly television series that airs on the Discovery Channel at 9 p.m. Wednesdays. Each week, Savage and Hyneman take on three popularly held beliefs and use modern-day science to show the audience what is real and what is myth.
