July 10, 2009 Purdue board of trustees adds members, elects officersWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's board of trustees on Friday (July 10) added three new members and elected Keith Krach as board chairman and Mamon Powers Jr. as vice chairman.
Krach (pronounced Crock) of Los Gatos, Calif., is a 1979 Purdue graduate and a leading information technology executive. He is chief executive officer of 3Points Inc., a California-based investment company. He also was co-founder and former chairman and CEO of Ariba Inc., a business-to-business e-commerce company.
Powers, a native of Gary, Ind., is a 1970 graduate of Purdue's civil engineering program. He was appointed to the board on in 1996. A registered professional engineer, Powers is president of Powers & Sons Construction Co., Inc. Outgoing chairman J. Timothy McGinley said he is enthused about the future of the board and the university. "I'm proud of what we've done, but I'm more excited about what the future holds for this team. It's a unique blend of experience and new energy," McGinley said. "The university is in great hands, and the board is united behind the president and the strategic plan." McGinley resigns from the board Saturday (July 11), after serving nearly 20 years as a trustee and 16 years as board chairman. Gov. Mitch Daniels on Tuesday (July 7) appointed Don Thompson, Michael Berghoff and Purdue student Tyler Teykl to the board.
An Indianapolis native, Thompson is a 1984 Purdue electrical engineering graduate and president of McDonald's USA, based in Chicago. Thompson was appointed to replace McGinley and will serve the remainder of the term, which expires July 1, 2010. Thompson was named the 2007 Corporate Executive of the Year by Black Enterprise magazine and received the 2008 Corporate Executive Award from Trumpet Foundation. He also received an Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineering Award from Purdue and served as a university Old Master fellow in 2006.
Berghoff, of Indianapolis, is a 1985 Purdue graduate with a degree in industrial management. He is president and founder of Lenex Steel. Lenex Steel was founded in 2003 to provide fabricated steel for the commercial construction industry and has headquarters in Indianapolis and fabrication facilities in Terre Haute and Indianapolis. Berghoff replaced Susan Bulkeley Butler and will serve a three-year term.
Teykl, of Rosenberg, Texas, is a sophomore in chemical engineering at Purdue. He replaces student trustee Jill Steiner. Teykl is a member of the 2008 President's Leadership Class and Purdue Engineering Student Council and wants to work on sustainable energy solutions for transportation when he graduates. He will serve a two-year term.
JoAnn Brouillette, of West Lafayette, was reappointed to a three-year term. She is a managing partner and president of Demeter LP in Fowler, Ind. Al Diaz, Purdue's executive vice president for business and finance and treasurer, was elected the board's treasurer. The trustees also re-elected the following: * Corporate secretary - Roseanna Behringer. * Assistant treasurer and assistant secretary - James S. Almond, Purdue senior vice president for business services and assistant treasurer. * Legal counsel - Anthony S.
