Wiley Dining Court, which opened its doors last fall, has earned an "Outstanding Designs" citation in the 2009 American School and University magazine.

Every dining court project at Purdue has won at least one citation from the American School and University or College and University Planning magazines. Both publications are information sources for higher education administrators and architects responsible for the planning, design, operation and maintenance of educational facilities.

"We are proud that our newest dining facility also has been recognized for its outstanding design," said John Sautter, vice president for housing and food services. "The awards we've received over the years confirm our dedication to providing high quality residential and dining offerings for our students."

Wiley Dining Court opened in August 2008. It is a 46,450-square-foot facility with a capacity to accommodate 550 people. The $19 million facility is marked by large windows; vaulted wood ceilings; and stylish use of glass, steel and tile. A variety of serving stations provide a broad menu of popular dishes including made-to-order pizzas, pastas and sandwiches. The court's distinguishing station is the Churrascaria, which features Brazilian barbecue-style cooking. The dining court's design, featuring a palette rich in textures and subtle deep color scheme, defines the different venues, highlighting the foods on display.

The dining areas offer several large-screen televisions and free wireless Internet access. The building is located on the western side of campus across from the Recreational Sports Center on Martin Jischke Drive.

Scholer Corporation of Lafayette, Ind., was the project architect, while Kettlehut Construction Company, also of Lafayette, Ind., was the general contractor. Ricca Newmark Design of Denver, Colo., was the food service interior design consultant.
