Materials Engineering Endowments

Undergraduate Support

Lois J. Hook Memorial Scholarship Fund in Materials Engineering - This endowment will provide one or more scholarships for sophomores, juniors or seniors, who have a demonstrated financial need as determined by the University's Division of Financial Aid, and who have a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0. enrolled in the School of Materials Engineering.

Edward J. Sopcak Memorial Scholarship in Materials Engineering - This endowment will provide academic merit scholarships to undergraduate students.

Dr. David L. Ellis Scholarship - This endowment will provide merit based scholarships for MSE undergraduates in the School of MSE who have at least a 2.5 /4.0 GPA overall and  3.0/4.0 GPA in MSE core courses.

Preference will be given in the following order:

1) domestic students as defined by the University,

2) students working on copper, copper composites,

or heat flux materials or on superalloys and other high temperature, high strength materials.

Seagle Family Scholarship - This endowment will provide one or more annual scholarships based on financial need as determined by the University's Division of Financial Aid, for full-time undergraduate students in MSE.

Richard E. and Connie F. Grace Scholarship - This endowment will provide one or more scholarships for full-time undergraduate students in the School of Materials Engineering. For purposes of this endowment academic merit is defined as a minimum GPA of at least 3.0/4.0. Preference will be given to domestic students as defined by the University.

Dr. Mysore A. Dayananda Academic Excellence Scholarship - This endowment will provide one or more annual scholarships based on academic merit as defined by the University for undergraduate students in the School of Materials Engineering.

Venkatraman Family Endowment - This endowment will provide one or more annual scholarships for students enrolled in the School of Materials Engineering and who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6/4.0 GPA.  Preference will be given to students who are not domestic students as defined by the University.

The Dr. Philip A. and Carol L. Stine Scholarship Endowment in Honor of Professors G.L. Liedl and M.A. Dayananda - This endowment will provide one or more annual scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Materials Engineering.

James and Vicki Capadona Endowment Fund - This endowment will assist with student domestic travel expenses and high school outreach activities, which includes, but is not limited to the School's ASM Teacher Camps.

The Mysore and Prema Dayananda Scholarship - This endowment will provide one or more annual scholarships for full-time undergraduate students in the School of Materials Engineering. The scholarships will be based on financial need as determined by the University's Division of Financial Aid.

The Rodger L. Boehm Scholarship - This endowment will provide one or more annual scholarships for full-time undergraduate students in the School of Materials Engineering. The scholarships will be based on financial need as determined by the University's Division of Financial Aid.

The Sara Venn and Dustin Ruh Endowment - This endowment will provide scholarships for undergraduates who have incurred additional expenses as part of a Study Abroad experience. Students must meet the academic requirements under the University's guidelines for Study Abroad and must be participating in the Study Abroad Program for at least one semester or two summer modules in duration.

The James R. Hornaday Memorial Scholarship - This endowment will provide one or more annual scholarships for students enrolled in the School of Materials Engineering and who have demonstrated high academic merit.

The Lorraine Welter and Evelyn Gambone Endowment - This endowment will provide scholarships for undergraduate students who have incurred additional expenses as part of a Study Abroad experience.

The David R. Gaskell Memorial Scholarship in Materials Engineering - This endowment will provide scholarships for sophomores or juniors in Materials Engineering who have demonstrated financial need as determined by the University's Division of Financial Aid and who have demonstrated academic merit as determined by the School.

The John and Anne Cahn Scholarship - This endowment will provide scholarships to undergraduates who have demonstrated financial need as determined by the University's Division of Financial Aid and who have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.

Preference will be given as follows:

1) to students who are in their senior year

2) to students who are from Lake County, Indiana

3) students who are first-time recipients of a Materials Engineering scholarship

Shropshire Family Undergraduate Research Fund in Materials Engineering -This endowment provides funding for undergraduate research.

The Purdue Materials Engineers of ArcelorMittal Scholarship - This fund provides one or more annual undergraduate scholarships for in-state students who have a demonstrated financial need, as determined by the University's Division of Financial Aid with a preference for those enrolled in the School of Materials Engineering.

Matthew M. Slone Academic Excellence Award - This endowment will provide one or more annual scholarships for students entering their senior year in the School of Materials Engineering. Half of the awardees will be out-of-state students. 

Donna Bystrom Undergraduate Service Award: This endowment will provide an annual award for one or more students who exemplify servant leadership by actively volunteering within the School. Preference will be given to a senior who demonstrates a consistently positive attitude, willingly represents MSE at various events, mentors other students to become involved and has a genuine desire to uphold the reputation of the School.

Graduate Support

The Briney Achievement Award: This fund recognizes research potential and accomplishments of first and second-year graduate students.

The Hook Family Endowment for Support of Graduate Students in Materials Engineering: This endowment provides support for the greatest needs of graduate students in MSE.

The Keith Bowman Graduate Student Travel Endowment: This fund provides assistance for graduate student travel expenses to professional conferences.

The Kim Family Endowment for Graduate Support in Materials Engineering: This fund provides graduate support for students enrolled in MSE.

The Prema and Mysore Dayananda Award for Novelty in Research: The purpose of this fund is to: 1.) provide one or more annual cash awards to outstanding graduate students who demonstrate personal initiatives and entrepreneurship with novelty in theoretical concepts and/or experimental techniques employed in their M.S. and Ph.D research and/or 2.) to encourage such students to present research findings at professional conferences. 

The Dr. Mysore A. and Prema K.Dayananda Fellowship in Materials Engineering - This fund provides graduate support to an individual graduate student with a preference for those candidates in the broad research area of atomic transport in solids and/or microstructural investigations. 

Faculty Support

Schuhmann Professorship - This endowment provides support for the Schuhmann Professor, Dr. Carol Handwerker.

Richard E. and Connie F. Grace Best Faculty Research Grant - To recognize a faculty member, annually, whose research program and professional development show the greatest innovation, scholarship, and professional recognition, as determined by the School by supporting the selected faculty member's research program.

Administrative Support 

Dr. Richard E. Grace Fund - This endowment will provide unrestricted support for the School of Materials Engineering as determined by the Head of the School.

Shropshire Family Strategic Initiative Fund in Materials Engineering - This endowment will be used to build unrestricted funds that can replace general funds for supporting areas of strategic importance in MSE.

Linda Sarros Strategic Initiative Fund in Materials Engineering - This endowment will be used to build unrestricted funds that can replace general funds for supporting areas of strategic importance in MSE.

Mike and Jane McCulley Strategic Initiative Fund in Materials Engineering - This endowment will be used to build unrestricted funds that can replace general funds for supporting areas of strategic importance in MSE.
