Purdue professor available to speak on cybersecurity

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Eugene H. Spafford, a Purdue University professor of computer science and executive director emeritus of Purdue’s Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security – CERIAS – can talk about a range of cybersecurity issues, including cloud-based and online services.

An Indiana college was unable to access important computer records after an IT worker was fired.  Many organizations have moved their processing to “the cloud” without understanding some of the associated risks.

Spafford said, “Organizations can outsource some of their processing, but they can’t outsource the responsibility that goes with it.”

A noted cyber security expert, Spafford can discuss it and related risks to organizations as well as the protection of intellectual property in academia, business and government as well as information and cybersecurity education and security and science policy.

Spafford is the founder of one of the world’s leading centers for research and education in areas of information security. His research has focused on issues related to securing computers, networks and their data against criminal activities and failures.
