INTRODUCTION
In order to continue to maintain pedestrian, vehicular, and facility safety on Purdue University Grounds, the following procedure provides an orderly process for the review, approval, and implementation of Autonomous Technology Devices, from driverless delivery to personal or group transportation. This requirement applies to personal, research, and/or commercial use.
APPLICATION OF THESE PROCEDURES
This procedure applies to all Purdue University operations and campuses. This includes, but is not limited to, faculty, staff, students, volunteers, clubs, and similar organizations who plan to operate Autonomous Technology Devices for personal use or as part of their University employment, research, or scholarly activities. This procedure also applies to any third party that wishes to operate Autonomous Technology Devices on University Grounds for personal or commercial use.
All persons operating Autonomous Technology Devices on University Grounds are responsible for complying with this procedure; all federal, state, and local regulations; as well as applicable University policies.
PROCEDURES- Before an Autonomous Technology Device is deployed on University Grounds, it must be approved by the University. A Request for Use Form must be completed and sent to the Office of Risk Management (ORM) for review.
- Once received, ORM will engage the appropriate partners for review (police, facilities, and others) to determine the impact to the affected campus.
- If approved in concept, logistical issues will be addressed by the review group:
- Storage
- Charging
- Deployment
- Enforcement
- Other
- Consensus of the group will constitute approval; however, final approval rests with ORM.
- Further approvals will be secured by ORM as needed.
- The review group will establish a timeline for implementation and confirm with the responsible parties.
