Why Choose Purdue in Indianapolis 

Nestled in the heart of downtown, the campus of Purdue in Indianapolis welcomes students to a vibrant city atmosphere with state of the art facilities. Many industry connections are available throughout the city of Indianapolis, giving students access to internships and co-ops with local businesses that have global impact.
Purdue in Indianapolis engineering students in good academic standing will have opportunities for paid internships. As part of an undergraduate degree program, the work-integrated learning experience may come in the form of a co-op or an industry or undergraduate research internship. Purdue’s goal is to see more students participate in internships related to their field in Indianapolis, which will provide them with hands-on experience, improve retention rates and increase the likelihood of launching their professional careers in Indiana.

Engineering students at our Indianapolis location will enroll directly to one of the five majors available: Biomedical, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, or Motorsports.

The first year experience for freshman engineering students will include a group work focus through one of two pathways: 

EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service), a popular pathway through which teams of students partner with local and global community organizations to address human, community, and environmental needs. 

VIP (Vertically Integrated Projects), a popular pathway where students from all years, first-year through senior, work with faculty and graduate student mentors on multi-disciplinary research projects and national, international, and industry-sponsored design challenges. Students have the opportunity to engage in the persistent pursuit of innovation together.

Applying to Purdue University in Indianapolis

Prospective undergraduate students seeking to attend Purdue University in Indianapolis on or after July 1, 2024 will apply for admission to Purdue University using the processes in place for our flagship West Lafayette location. Prospective students can expect admissions standards to be those of West Lafayette. Students at Purdue in Indianapolis are wholly part of the Purdue West Lafayette flagship ecosystem and are able to participate in student organizations and activities at both locations.

Students are directly admitted to their major in Indianapolis and will follow a core first year curriculum similar to the First-Year Engineering Program in West Lafayette. 

Motorsports Engineering Only In Indianapolis

Purdue University in Indianapolis is the only institution in the nation that offers an undergraduate motorsports engineering program recognized by ABET. Our students pursue internships and careers with NASCAR and IndyCar teams, as well as companies like SpaceX, Harley-Davidson, Ford, Polaris, GM, Cummins and Caterpillar.
