The Graduate School Advance to a Higher Degree

Fellowships

Many graduate students are awarded fellowships each year, either by the University or by external agencies. Benefits from a fellowship include:

  • Stipend: covers living expenses such as food and rent
  • Full or Partial Tuition Coverage: pays part or all of the graduate tuition
  • Medical insurance supplement: contributes to or covers the total cost of medical insurance for the duration of the fellowship.

Classification of Fellowships

The University recognizes that there are several different types of fellowships, and it primarily considers two aspects when classifying these awards: funding source and award process. Using the fund, The Graduate School classifies the fellowship into one of five broad categories:

  • Internal (Purdue Managed)
  • Federal
  • Industrial
  • Endowed.
  • Institutional
