Before you enter the MRI room:

  • Arrive 10 minutes prior to scan time in order to fill out necessary paperwork
  • You will change into MRI facility scrubs prior to being scanned
  • For your comfort, use the restroom before undergoing the procedure, which may take a long period of time (usually, MRI procedure can lasts 15 to 90 minutes, based on the type of the performed procedure)
  • The scanner operator will review your MRI screening form prior to scan
  • Make sure that you remove:
    • Metal jewelry (e.g., necklaces, pins, rings).
    • Hair accessories (e.g., hair pins, bobby pins, barrettes, clips, etc.)
    • All dentures, false teeth, partial dental plates.
    • Your watch, pager, cell phone, credit and bank cards and all other cards with a magnetic strip.
    • Undergarments.
    • Body piercing objects.
    • Eyeglasses.
    • Hearing aids.
    • Shoes.
  • Lock up all personal items in locker
  • Express any concerns that you may have to the scanner operator before entering the scanner

Inside the MRI room:

  • You will be required to use the ear plugs and/or headphones that we supply for use during your MRI examination to protect you from the noise levels that caused by the scanner as this could affect your hearing.
  • You will be provided with a squeezable ball to keep in your hand. You can squeeze this ball if you need to speak to the operator duriing the scan. 
  • You will then be positioned comfortably on the bed and a coil (a device that generates/receives the radio frequency pulses) will be placed around the part needed to be scanned before enter the scanner bore (cylinder).
  • Moving the imaged part of your body will distort the image. Therefore, you will be asked to stay still during the procedure.
  • You will be asked also to avoid crossing your wrists/hands or legs/ankles in order to avoid creating a potential electric current loop.
