Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center hosting several virtual spring events

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University’s Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center will host several virtual events during the spring 2021 semester.
The Lunch and Learn Series will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursdays via Zoom. Participants must register online before all sessions. Registration for the entire series or for individual presentations is available online.
* Feb. 11 — “Inclusivity in the Arts.” Presenter: Tetia Lee, chief executive officer, Tippecanoe Arts Federation. Registration for this event is available online.
* Feb. 18 — “Pushing Boundaries on Academia as a Mixed Medium EntreScholar.” Presenter: Ariel Smith, doctoral student, American Studies Program at Purdue. Registration for this event is available online.
- Feb. 25 — “From Foundations to Frontiers: Chinese American Contributions to the Fabric of America.” Presenter: Committee of 100. Registration for this event is available online.
- March 4 — “How Central Asian Women in the U.S. Worked on COVID Awareness Raising in Central Asia.” Presenter: Annagul Yaryyeva, researcher, Turkmenistan Health Initiative. Registration for this event is available online.
- March 11 — “Diverging Trajectories of Transitional Justice: A Comparative Look into South Korea and Peru.” Presenter: Ñusta Carranza Ko, assistant professor, School of Public and International Affairs, University of Baltimore. Registration for this event is available online.
- April 8 — “A Look Back at Our Purdue Experience.” Presenters: Renz Buenavista and Gwynelle Condino, AAARCC undergraduate student ambassadors. Registration for this event is available online.
- April 15 — “Virtual Identity and Music.” Presenter: Christopher Cayari, assistant professor, Purdue’s Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance. Registration for this event is available online.
- April 22 — “Multilinguistic Hybridization in BTS Songs.” Presenter: Huai-Rhin Kim, continuing lecturer, Purdue School of Languages and Cultures. Registration for this event is available online.
The AAARCC monthly Speaker Series will have the following guests:
* Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. – “Hawai’i is My Haven: Race and Indigeneity in the Black Pacific.” Nitasha Sharma, professor of African American studies and Asian American studies, Northwestern University. Registration for this event is available online.
* March 9 at 7 p.m. – International Women’s Day Panel and Concert with Carolyn Woo, Distinguished President's Fellow for Global Development at Purdue; Reini Wirahadikusumah, rector at the Institut Teknologi in Bandung, Indonesia; and artist Ruby Ibarra. Following the panel is a virtual concert by Ibarra. Registration for this event is available online.
* April 1 at 5 p.m. – Opening of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month featuring spoken word performance with Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye (Project VOICE). Registration for this event is available online.
Among the numerous other events, the virtual Reali-Tea Series brings students the weekly opportunity to have conversations with AAARCC’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) liaisons. The weekly student hours are at 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Access to the weekly hours can be found online.
Additionally, once a month at 4 p.m. a CAPS liaison will lead a workshop. Some restrictions may apply; check this website for more information.
The AAARCC and Asian Student Union Board will present the Asian-Interest Student Organizations Leadership Series. This series, composed of virtual events, is a collaborative initiative to assist in the understanding of issues and themes in the Asian and Asian American communities. The events will all take place at 7 p.m., and the schedule is as follows:
* Feb. 23 – Inclusion of International Students and International Student Organizations. Registration for this event is available online.
* March 16 – Multi-Modal Approaches in Cultural Anthropology. Registration for this event is available online.
* March 30 – Leadership in Asian Interest Student Organizations and Impacts on the Professional World. Registration for this event is available online.

The AAARCC partners with the Center for Career Opportunities & Pre-Professional Advising (CCO) to offer a monthly presentation and a monthly consultation hour on career and professional development.
* Feb 12 at 11 a.m. – Xiangning “Sean” Deng, director of Technical Services and Manufacturing Science, Eli Lilly and Co. Registration for this event is available online.
* Feb 26 at 11 a.m. – Rose Xu of the CCO drop-in office hours and pre-professional advising with Cristy Gosney drop-in office hours. Xu’s office hours are available online. Gosney’s office hours are available online.
* March 5 at 11 a.m. – Catch the CCO workshop with Dr. Rose Xu – Highlight Your Personal Brand in Interviews. Registration for this event is available online.

Special topic events this semester:
* April 23 at 5 p.m. – InspirAsian: An Evening of Virtual Graduation and Student Leaders Appreciation. Recognize and celebrate student leaders and members of the graduating class of 2021. Online streaming is available. Graduating students must register to receive special graduation merchandise.
* April 26-30 – Destress Week 2021. Check the center’s website to view the schedule for the week.
