Daniels Gubernatorial Term 2005-2013
In office, he spearheaded a host of reforms aimed at improving the performance of state government with a strong emphasis on performance measurement, which included leading the state to its first balanced budget in nearly a decade, transforming a nearly $800 million deficit into an annual surplus of $370 million within a year (without a tax increase), enacting the most sweeping education reforms in the country, and dramatically increasing Indiana's business attractiveness and job creation.
