The Women’s Global Health Institute Travel Grant

The Women’s Global Health Institute (WGHI) is pleased to announce the WGHI Travel Grant! This program supports Purdue graduate students and early-stage researchers in sharing and disseminating their professional work on women’s health at major scientific conferences.

DEADLINE: Nov 15, 2024 (grants will cover travel to conferences occurring within six months before and after the call deadline). 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Purdue University Graduate students: must be actively enrolled full-time in a graduate program with a Purdue faculty advisor who is a full member of the WGHI.
  • Purdue University Early-stage researchers: This includes Assistant Professor, Assistant Research Professor, Clinical Professor, or postdoctoral researcher. All must hold full membership with the WGHI. Membership information and application can be found here.

FUNDING AMOUNT

  • Graduate students: up to $500
  • Early-stage researchers: up to $1000

REQUIREMENTS/RESTRICTIONS

  • Presentations at the conference (oral or poster) required
  • Presented research is relevant to women’s health
  • Only one application per faculty research group is allowed
  • Presentations, posters, and subsequent publications containing presented data should include the text, “The authors gratefully acknowledge the Purdue University Women’s Global Health Institute Travel Grants.” The awardee is required to include the Women’s Global Health Institute logo on their presentations (versions of WGHI logo can be downloaded at here)

NO COST EXTENSION

No cost extensions are not allowed. If the planned travel does not occur before May 15, 2025, the grant will be terminated.

REPORTING

  • Submitting a high-quality photo of the awardee presenting at the conference
  • Responding to periodic requests regarding the impact of this grant on your career development and professional growth.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

  • Application Length: Maximum of one page (single-spaced, Arial 11pt, no less than 0.5-inch margins)
  • Application Structure: (included in page restrictions):
    • Applicant information: name, the name of your faculty advisor (for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers), and details of the conference (name, date, and location).
    • Abstract: Provide an abstract (300-400 words) of the project that will be presented at the conference. Clearly identify hypothesis to be tested, the results (known or anticipated), and the significance of the project in the field of women’s health.
    • Career Enhancement Paragraph: Write a separate paragraph explaining how attending this conference will enhance the applicant’s training and future career and scientific goals.
  • Advisor’s Approval and Estimated Expenses: (not included in page restrictions)
    •  The advisor’s signature is required to confirm their approval of this application (for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers)
    • Itemized estimated expenses (for all applicants)
  • Review Criteria
    • Relevance to women’s health
    • Impact on applicant’s career development, including productivity and accomplishments.
