Description

Please plan to join us on May 8 for the Nexus Postdoctoral Researcher Webinar from 12-1 PM.

Dr. Daneshvar will present the webinar titled" “Development of methodologies for SWAT hydrologic modeling in Arequipa".

Summary:

The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) is a commonly used hydrologic model to simulate impact of land use, land management and climate change at regional scale. However its performance relies on quality of inputs including physiographic and climatic data, and observed data used for model calibration. These data are barely available in Arequipa which make development and use of SWAT challenging. The goal of this study was to identify and develop data sources and methods to have a functioning SWAT model in the region. Headwaters of Chili River draining to the El Frayle reservoir was used as the study area. Results showed that developed methodologies and data sources provide reliable prediction of hydrologic cycle of the region. Developed datasets and methodologies will be applicable for regional scale modeling in Arequipa.

Dr. Daneshvar is part of the Nexus Project: " A Framework of Sustainable Water Management (SWM) in the Arequipa Region" led by Dr. Laura Bowling (Purdue) and Dr. Edwin Bocardo (UNSA)
