Speaker's Bio:
Dr. Diana Vanessa Sarria-Zuniga obtained her PhD in Botany and Plant Pathology from Purdue University in 2020, focusing on the characterization of bacterial communities in leafy greens associated with foodborne disease outbreaks such as romaine lettuce. Her doctoral research thesis focused on the understanding of how environmental conditions, leaf properties of romaine lettuce and bacterial communities play a role in the growth of the human pathogen E. coli O157:H7 on this leafy green.
She is currently working in Nexus Institute as a postdoctoral researcher with Amanda Deering and Haley Oliver in the Department of Food Science at Purdue University, she is working on the development of a training program to educate growers in Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), as well as the evaluation of the microbiological and chemical quality of irrigation water, and commercially valuable fruits and vegetables in Arequipa, Peru.
