Nexus Institute Researchers presented at the Symposium: “Digital transformation, innovation of processes and products in the food industry” in Arequipa, Peru.

The Purdue members of the Nexus project: “Capacity Strengthening for Postharvest Handling and Storage in Peru (CAST-PHS)” Dr. Dieudonné Baributsa, a professor in the Department of Entomology, the project’s principal investigator; Dr. Charlie Woloshuk, a professor in the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology; and Dr. Jorge Diaz-Valderrama, a postdoctoral researcher; presented initial findings of their research on a talk titled: "Reducing Postharvest Loss: Purdue University's Experiences," at the “Digital transformation, innovation of processes and products in the food industry Symposium” in Arequipa, Peru. The presentation focused on the CAST-PHS’ latest advances, findings from recent data collections, and the impacts the transfer of technology of this project will have in postharvest loss in Arequipa. The event was organized by the Professional School of Food Industry Engineering on October 14-15, 2019 at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustin (UNSA) in Arequipa, Peru.

The UNSA faculty members of the project are: Mg. Jackeline Zanabria, Co-Principal Investigator; Mg. Nancy Orihuela, Dr. Victor Hugo Casa; and Mg. Nelly Ramirez. This collaborative Purdue-UNSA team has the goal of improving postharvest handling and storage practices in the region of Arequipa. They focus on providing solutions to postharvest issues via technology transfer, training of UNSA faculty and agricultural leaders, agro-processors, farmers, and other stakeholders.
