Nexus Institute’s 3rd Annual Workshop Series successfully concludes fall sessions

December 18, 2020

The Arequipa Nexus Institute hosted its Third Annual Technical Workshop Series from October 26 to December 11. 13 workshops were held in an asynchronous virtual format, combining recorded presentations and lectures, live sessions, and assignments to enhance the attendee’s learning experience. A total of 157 participants from Purdue and UNSA registered for the sessions, accessed the learning materials in an asynchronous way, sharing questions and comments in live sessions with the instructors. After completing the modules, the participants who successfully completed at least 20 academic hours of work and successfully approved their workshop evaluations will be awarded technical certificates.

This is the third annual workshops series part of the Nexus Institute’s commitment in capacity building and technology transfer for UNSA faculty and Stakeholders in Arequipa. Faculty and students from the Universidad Nacional de San Agustin (UNSA), and members of relevant government agencies and local stakeholders examined, learned and practiced solutions to critical issues of natural resources use with minimal tradeoffs to Arequipa's environment. Following this framework, the workshops are a fundamental tool that enhance the technical cooperation between Purdue and UNSA as the basis for the next phase of collaboration in the Scientific and Technology Park of Arequipa.

The workshops modules covered several aspects of research, from principles of conducting studies with human subjects and grant writing techniques, to more technical aspects, such as techniques for pathogens detections in food and water, as well as for the development of strategies to mitigate the environmental impacts of harmful agents. Additionally, some of the series discussed current topics on food safety, agricultural practices, food security, soil health and water monitoring.

We would like to thank our sponsor UNSA, the support of Purdue’s Center for the Environment. And to all Purdue and UNSA researchers, we extend a special thank you for their contributions and arduous work to make this Workshop series a success.
