Family health clinics timeline
1995: Purdue University’s Family Health Clinics began when Jo Brooks, Purdue School of Nursing professor, with the help of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, opened the Family Health Clinic of Carroll County. The clinic began in a 500-square-foot space on the Delphi Courthouse Square. The staff, along with students and faculty of the School of Nursing, provided primary health care to individuals who were unable to obtain care due to financial or access challenges, and this nurse-managed model is still used today.
1998: The clinic moved to Brosman Center. Since 2008 the clinic has been housed at the Brooks Center, 901 Prince William Road, Delphi.
2006: After the White County United Way and the Indiana State Department of Health recognized a similar need for access to care, a new clinic site was opened in Monon, Indiana.
2009: North Central Nursing Clinics, a nonprofit organization, partnered with the School of Nursing to secure federal funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration for the Family Health Clinics of Carroll County and Monon. The funding allowed them to qualify as a federally qualified health center.
January 2016: A new clinic opened in Burlington, Indiana, with the support of the town council, community leadership and a new access grant from HRSA.
June 2016: The Town of Wolcott and Remington Wolcott Economic and Community Development Corp., along with the REMC, supported opening a fourth clinic site in Wolcott, Indiana.
December 2016: IU Health Foundation donated an office building in Delphi to the clinics, allowing consolidation of administrative functions and opening more exam room space at the Prince William Road facility.
2017: Groundbreaking for a new facility in Monon is expected to take place early this year. Funding comes from the Health Resources Services Administration, the Town of Monon and a gift of land from the Brown family of Monon.
