Welcome to Purdue Nurse
Greetings and welcome to the first interactive online issue of the Purdue Nurse. Our focus on innovation and expansion has been the most pressing priority, and we are delighted to update you on major initiatives and accomplishments since our last issue.
As you may have heard through media outlets, we are in the process of doubling our undergraduate program and at the same time launching our PhD program. We are thrilled to have received two of the 51 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation fellowships awarded this year for full-time PhD students. These students will complete their degrees in three years and benefit from mentoring, networking and leadership development in connection with this national initiative.
Our students, faculty and alumni continue to be recognized for excellence. We are especially pleased to share these celebrations with you. As always, our faculty are keeping a finger on the national health care pulse through participation in boards, professional organizations, and attendance at key regional and national meetings to be sure Purdue Nursing has relevant curricula, research initiatives and engagement.
Our nurse-led clinics continue to have significant impact on rural communities around the West Lafayette campus. This summer, the Delphi clinic received the MDwise Star Performer award for high performance in quality and service. The expansion into Burlington and Wolcott is bringing top-quality, accessible health care to a total of four communities and we expect to expand beyond 18,000 patient visits annually.
The new and efficient simulation space has doubled our capacity for simulation — just in time for our program expansion. We are bursting at the seams in Johnson Hall with students and the 30 new faculty members to be hired over the next three years to accommodate program expansion. In collaboration with University administration, we are working to determine both short-term and long-term solutions to our space challenges.
Please visit our website, as we are continually updating information about the school and our programs. We are also launching a new electronic update so we can share exciting news between the annual issues of Purdue Nurse. Roxanne Martin, at martinrj@purdue.edu, helps keep our alumni email contacts accurate. Please let her know if you have a new address so we can keep you in the information loop!
I hope you enjoy learning about the exciting work in the School of Nursing.
Boiler up!
