Communication Guidelines
Communication guidelines are provided for staff working in covered areas (see Covered Components) designated by the HIPAA Regulations. These guidelines were created to assist staff in maintaining the confidentiality of protected health information.

Secure Transmission of Data
Because Purdue’s email is not encrypted, it has been a challenge to securely transmit electronically-stored protected health information. Responding to this need, Purdue has developed an open source program, Filelocker, for use by Purdue’s faculty and staff to conveniently and securely share files with other people both on and off campus. In order to access the Filelocker application, the user must login in with their Purdue Career Account and password.
