What SPS Contracting Handles
SPS Contracting reviews and negotiates sponsored research agreements. SPS Contracting consists of three primary groups:
- Industry Team
The industry-focused team within SPS Contracting handles funded research agreements with industry sponsors, including commercial entities, non-profit organizations, and foundations. The industry team contract analysts are experts in explaining Purdue’s various alternatives for intellectual property rights (Industry Contracting Models). - Federal Team
The Federal-focused team handles grants and awards from Federal agencies and the State of Indiana. The Federal team also handles other miscellaneous agreements which cover activities that directly support research, for example, data use and transfer agreements. - Non-Financial Team
The non-financial team is a newly-formed team that focuses on non-disclosure agreements and material transfer agreements
There are also agreements handled by other University offices as they are not related to sponsored research. Here are some examples:
- Purchasing of goods, even when the goods are purchased with sponsored research funds. Purchase agreements are handled by Procurement.
- Recharge agreements for conferences, services agreements for digital education, facilities use agreements, business associate agreements, student internship and affiliation agreements, study abroad agreements, gifts of software licenses, sponsored student class project agreements, and other non-core agreements detailed here [https://www.purdue.edu/business/sps/contractmgmt/Office_of_Legal_Counsel.html] are handled by the Office of Legal Counsel. Requests should be sent to OLC via their New Matter Intake Form found here: https://www.purdue.edu/legalcounsel/.
- Agreements for licensing Purdue-owned intellectual property, including commercial evaluation licensing agreements and patent prosecution agreements, are handled by Purdue Research Foundation’s Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC). OTC is the office that manages the University’s intellectual property assets.
