Ally Jacoby’s research focused on soil health in the agricultural system of the Arequipa desert. Jacoby analyzed soil metal content in vineyard soils from UNSA’s Center for Agricultural Research, Education and Production (CIEPA). Throughout her project, she was able to complete 193 soil samples, collaborate across cultures and share her findings with both UNSA and Purdue.
Nicholas Hamp-Adam's research used Cold War-era satellite imagery to inform historic land cover classification. The project generated a data set of images to document the anthropogenic land cover changes over the past half-century in the Arequipa Region. By using these datasets, researchers can identify which land has been under agricultural production for longer periods of time, informing soil sampling strategies.
